I first came across David on my first day of teaching over 30 years ago at Thornden School. He was attempting to teach some flutes with me bashing on a drum kit down the corridor. I suddenly heard this complete stranger shouting down the corridor 'who is that pig skin beater making such a racket' ! I was forever known as the pig skin beater. I loved his interactions at staff meetings. I always sat there just eagerly waiting for him to say something.. such great sense of humor, a real inspiration to me ever since !
